Tour overview
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara
You will picked up at the airport or hotel by 0745 for a 6hr drive to Masai Mara. Arrival and check in at the
lodge/camp in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive until sunset. Dinner and overnight.
The Masai Mara Game Reserve is often called simply “The Mara” – a Masai word meaning “mottled” – a reference to
its patchy landscape.
The Reserve covers 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and raises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. The terrain of the
reserve is primarily grassland and riverine forest with clumps of distinctive acacia trees. It is about 270 km from the capital city Nairobi and takes about 5-6 hours by road or 40-45 minutes by flight.
The wildlife of the Masai Mara is world-renowned, with the so-called “Big Five”- buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros – evident throughout the year. The “Big Nine” – including cheetah, zebra, giraffe and hippo – extends this experience.
The Masai Mara also plays host to the „Annual Migration‟ but whatever the time of year the resident wildlife will
surely enthrall and entertain all who visit this wondrous reserve.
Finally let us not forget the colorful inhabitants of this exceptional landscape. The Masai are a proud semi-nomadic
cattle-rearing people with a fascinating culture, divided into a number of sub-tribes some of which share the Mara
region. The Masai are an ever-present reminder of the history and cultural heritage of this sublime and enigmatic
landscape, and will surely leave a lasting impression for all.
Day 2: Day in Masai Mara
Optional; balloon safari and Masai village tour at usd 35 per person
After breakfast, full day game drives with picnic lunch tracking the migration. Dinner and overnight.
The greatest attraction in the Mara is watching the animals in their natural element; a lion’s roar, a cheetah making
a kill, and the big elephant herds are all very fascinating events. You will also meet the Maasai who are the
inhabitants of this reserve and are proud and largely aloof tribes who have held on to their customs and traditions
for hundreds of years.

The Serengeti National Park, meaning “endless plains” in the Masai language, is undoubtedly one of the world‟s
most celebrated Wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers and
photographers. It is Tanzania‟s oldest game reserve, renowned for the part it plays in the annual Great Migration,
when an estimated three million antelope – mostly wildebeest – migrate to Kenya‟s Masai Mara Game Reserve. This
epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Here visitors to the
park can roam its sprawling plains on exhilarating game drives or hop into a hot-air balloon ride for an once-in-alifetime wilderness adventure.

Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro

The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, is home to more than 30 000 protected animals. It is an area of
spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater,
once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would
have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it
is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 metre deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three
million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Fresh springs and a large soda lake quench the thirst of all the inhabitants. Black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lakes.
