Tour overview
This tour connects three major locations along the Great Rift Valley; Amboseli National Park, Lake Naivasha (can be substituted for Lake Nakuru) and Masai Mara National Reserve. Amboseli is the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species, and the best view of Mount Kilimanjaro (tallest in Africa). Lake Naivasha is beautiful and great for bird watchers and has breathtaking scenery. Masai Mara is the climax as you seek to spot the big five.
Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
This morning, you will be met and briefed at the airport or hotel in Nairobi. Depart and drive 4hrs through the scenic Athi Plains into Amboseli National Park. This is a famous location for viewing Africa’s highest snow-capped mountain (Mount Kilimanjaro). It is home to big herds of elephant and other wild game such as the lion, cheetah, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and the giraffe. Arrive and check in. Take lunch and relax for a while before joining your driver guide for an afternoon game drive in the park.

Day 2: Amboseli to Lake Naivasha or Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, drive for 5hrs to Lake Naivasha. It is the highest and the most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes. The water is fresh and the lake is fringed with dense clumps of papyrus. Lake Naivasha is yet another area popular with bird watchers (over 400 species have been recorded). There are no crocodiles in the lake as the water is too cold for them due to altitude but there are a number of hippos. The lake supports flourishing horticulture along its shores. Boat rides to see bird-life and hippos or boat trips to the Crescent Island for guided walks could be organized at extra cost.

Alternatively, substitute Lake Nakuru for Lake Nakuru National Park for wildlife viewing. Lake Nakuru is only 45 minutes away.

Day 3: Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara National Reserve
Depart for a 4.5hrs journey across the scenic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve. This is the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking views as seen in the film ‘Out of Africa’, where much of it was filmed. If has a high density of wildlife including the “Big Five” and many varieties of plains game. The phenomenal movement of the wildebeests dubbed as the ‘Great Migration’ can be witnessed here annually from July to September. Arrive and check in at the camp/lodge. After lunch, go for an afternoon game drive.

Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend the day exploring Masai Mara with picnic lunch. Mara is contiguous with Serengeti and home to Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino, Masai Giraffe, Eland and thousands of plain game including Impala, Zebra, Topi, Thomson’s and Grants Gazelles.
Optional activities at extra cost:
*Early morning balloon ride to have an aerial view of the wildlife
*Visit Maasai Village to witness the singing and dancing and other daily activities in their Manyatta.
Day 5: Masai Mara to Nairobi
Sunrise game drive. Breakfast at your camp. Check out depart as you bid farewell to the great plains of Masai Mara. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped at the airport or hotel. Optional lunch or dinner at the Carnivore restaurant at extra cost.
